Good News Locally, Regionally and Beyond
The word mission means “to be sent out.” In the context of the church, witness broadly means a public affirmation by word or deed of our religious conviction. At FPC, we strive to dedicate 20% of our overall budget to these efforts because we know that Christ has no hands with which to heal and serve but our own. Jesus said to the disciples, “you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth” (Acts 1:8). Though the names of the places have changed, FPC continues the tradition of witnessing to God’s love and generosity locally, by supporting LINK, the Salvation Army, Habitat for Humanity, Ministerial Alliance Assistance Fund, LPM Good Samaritan Fund, Ballard Community Center among others. In addition, FPC has created the Good News Fund which provides seed money to new initiatives in Lawrence geared to helping the poor. Our mission efforts extend regionally and internationally through the work of the PCUSA.
