Our Mission Statement

In gratitude for the gifts God has given us, we strive to equip and inspire the congregation to respond to the Biblical imperatives that call us:

  • To offer our compassion, resources and presence to the needs and hopes of our local community and beyond,
  • To be stewards of the earth
  • To work for justice, freedom and peace
  • All in the spirit of fellowship and love

Mission Involvement

We offer opportunities for hands-on ministry when we serve meals at the Lawrence Interfaith Nutritional Kitchen (LINK), the Lawrence Community Shelter, and with Family Promise of Lawrence.

Through the benevolence support of the Mission and Witness Committee, First Presbyterian Church seeks to alleviate hunger through support for the LINK, ECKAN, Bread for the World, The Villages, and the Lawrence Community Shelter. We support vital services and programs in our community, such as Ecumenical Christian Ministries, Habitat for Humanity, Salvation Army, Ballard Center, Emergency Service Council, Lawrence Ministerial Emergency Fund, Health Care Access, Willow Center for Domestic Violence, Warm Hearts/Black Hills Energy, and Family Promise.

We are in the process of preparing for a second trip to Nicaragua, working with mission personnel of the Presbyterian Church (USA) and CEPAD, as we prepare to build a partnership with people from that country. Our next trip is scheduled for March 2011. Please contact Carolynn Winters-Hazelton for more information.
